WOODFIRE KILNS
On my kilns site at North Richmond, an hour west of Sydney, I have built two anagama kilns.
‘Ana’, an egg shaped tunnel kiln with a firebox attached, was built in 1988 and decommissioned in 2009. This kiln had a fairly fast draught due to a steep internal slope.
‘Matilda’, my current kiln, is tall and wide for easy packing. It is also much flatter to maximise ash fallout and ash manipulation in the large firebox. Firings last from 3-5 days using a mixture of hardwoods and black wattle that continuously grows on my kiln site.
